Program Address: Zoom Meeting Sundays at 7:00-8:00 pm CST, United States
This community-based group helps individuals who are struggling with alcohol addiction to achieve and maintain their sobriety. Members can openly discuss their challenges and successes without judgment. Confidentiality and social connection are maintained in this peer accountability group.
I immigrated to the United States in my mid-twenties, as a
married man with dreams of building a new life. Despite initial challenges, my
wife's nursing career and my thriving appliance and furniture business provided
a solid foundation for our growing family. We had three boys and were active in a soccer league, our community, and church. It seemed like the American Dream was
within reach.
However, as life situation improved, what started as
occasional drinks turned into a daily habit, eventually spiraling out of
control. Despite multiple attempts at rehab, I struggled to maintain sobriety.
With an earnest desire to overcome addiction, I sought
treatment in India at TRADA, Kottayam. I met Sister Dr. Joan Chunkapura there, who
inspired me to pursue counseling and psychology courses to help others. Upon
returning, challenges in life still prevailed, and relapsed within two years,
for worse.
In 2011, my son, his father-in-law, and their pastor
intervened and offered me a lifeline. With the support of my family and a
renewed commitment to God, I finally found sobriety. The early days were
difficult, but with the support of my family, perseverance, and the grace of God
and embracing the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, a day at a time, now fourteen
years later, I am both sober and cigarette-free.
My transformation has not gone unnoticed. Amazed at my
transformation, I became a source of inspiration for those struggling with
addiction in our community. Encouraged by an elderly priest who recognized the
need for support and awareness in the community, I am now dedicated to helping
others struggling with addiction. The COVID-19 pandemic presented an
opportunity to reach a wider audience through virtual meetings. In 2019, I
found VISION 20/20, a support group for individuals struggling with addiction. Through
the weekly online support group, Vision 20/20, we share our experiences to stay
sober.
Our experience has
taught us that the family and spouses are the victims of addiction. We have a
separate strong weekly support group for spouses who share their experiences to
be of comfort to one another.
If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol
addiction, please seek professional help. Treatment and support groups like AA
can provide the tools necessary for recovery.
